Russia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 18 times after joining the family in 1994. They were relegated in 1998 but as they did not broadcast the contest, they were relegated in 1999, also.

The country has a mix of placings, sometimes in top 10, sometimes not, but the country has never fallen below 20th place. They have won once and hosted once. Since 2004 they have a 100% qualification record.

In the 2016 Jury Final, the Russian jury live streamed themselves on Periscope. Juror Anastasia Slotskaya showed her scorecard. A day later, the EBU announced that she was dismissed from the Russian jury and that her votes were declared invalid by the EBU.

Russia withdrew from the 2017 Contest in Kiev, Ukraine following a travel ban imposed on Yulia Samoilova. They officially announced their withdrawal on 13th April 2017 after rejecting multiple proposals from the EBU Reference Group. [1]
