Moldova made its debut in 2005 at the contest in Kyiv, Ukraine and finished 6th. Since their first appearance, they've only failed to qualify for the final on four occasions: 2008, 2014, 2015 and 2016

Over recent years, Moldova has come up with some rather interesting and wild performance elements such as images projected onto dresses, eccentric choreography, hair-tearing, and performers wearing pointy hats riding unicycles. In 2010, Sunstroke Project member Sergey Stepanov became an internet phenomenon during the group's performance of the song Run Away, his saxophone solo earning him the nickname "Epic Sax Guy". 7 years later, the trio returned and gave Moldova its first top-5 result, finishing 3rd in 2017.
