The Eurovision Song Contest 1982 was the twenty-seventh edition held on 24 April 1982 at the Harrogate Centre in Harrogate, a town located in the region of North Yorkshire. It was presented by TV presenter Jan Leeming.
18 countries took part in the competition, Greece was to take part but ERT pulled their entry a few weeks prior to the event. France declined to enter, their main channel at the time TF1 citing the contest as "a monument to drivel."
The contest was won by Germany, having waited since the inception of the contest for their first victory, and it was in a landslide, finishing a full 61 points ahead of second-place Israel. The winning song was Ein Bisschen Frieden performed by Nicole.
The host for the 1982 Contest was Jan Leeming, an English television presenter known for Pebble Mill at One on the BBC. She presented the news on BBC One during the 1980s.
