Eldar "Ell" Gasimov is an Azeri singer who represented his country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with Nigar Jamal as part of the duo Ell and Nikki. The two initially entered the Azerbaijan national final as solo artists, but they ended up as joint winners and became a duo for the contest in Düsseldorf where they performed the song Running Scared. They won the contest with 221 points and became the first male/female duo since 1963 to win the title.
Eldar co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku a year later alongside Leyla Aliyeva and Nargiz Birk-Petersen, and set out on a solo career soon after.
He holds degrees in international relations and regional geography from Baku Slavic University, plays piano and speaks several languages.
