Sir Cliff Richard (born Harry Roger Webb) is a British singer, actor and philanthropist. He is one of the United Kingdom's most legendary and much-loved artists, selling over 250 million albums worldwide.

He participated in Eurovision twice for his country, the first being in 1968 on home ground in London with the song Congratulations. He gave a very confident performance, but finished second by 1 vote behind Spain.

His second appearance was at the 1973 contest in Luxembourg, performing the song Power To All Our Friends. He led for some part of the voting, but eventually faded to third place.

Trivia

  • Although the song "Congratulations" finished second at the 1968 contest, it would become the title of the 50th anniversary event held in Copenhagen in 2005.
  • Cliff's backing band, The Shadows, would eventually go on to represent the United Kingdom at the 1975 contest in Stockholm where they finished second with the song Let Me Be The One.
  • After both of his Eurovision performances, he would lock himself in a bathroom stall until the show was over, citing he didn't like sitting in the artists' area.
